It was a very hot and humid day at sunny Moroso Motorsports Park. A few delays lead to a long day, one of which was lightning that track staff officals called. Estie Falero in his first professional drift event took him first place on his home track. Brian Wilkerson came in 2nd place after several one more times by the judges to finally decide a victor. Juan Henao also a native South Floridian took the third spot on a track that later became soaked with rain. Jerm's Photos - clink link for photos |

OSW Event Link to pictures Please allow thumbnails to load before clicking ActiveX required Wow, two months since the last coverage. Why is
it cloudy/party cloudy EVERYTIME we go to OSW for a drift event?
What can I say, racing season is pretty dead from November to March.
I sold my 30D and am currently in a search for a 1D Mark II, used of course.
This was the first event I had a chance to try out my new 1.4x Canon extender.
Works really well but it slows down the focus some. Mark's Shots

Formula Drift Round 2- Atlanta Link to pictures Please allow thumbnails to load before clicking ActiveX required A few weeks ago I got my upgrade from my Rebel XT in, my Canon 30D. I also just recently purchased a 70-300mm EF dual IS telephoto, but I have always wanted to try out the amazing L series lenses. Before I dropped $1700 on a lens, I wanted to test it out. I got in contact with a rental place in Atlanta that had reasonable rates. I then picked the 70-200mm F2.8L IS lens up on the way to the track Friday morning. I know why now people like them so much. You can tell a considerable difference in the shots that lens takes, especially under low light conditions. With that all in mind, I decided to order one next week so I can have one for Formula D Chicago. My (Mark's) Pics

Formula D Qualifier- Houston Link to pictures Please allow thumbnails to load before clicking ActiveX required http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/houstonqual/ It all started in Tampa. Five people, two trucks, two trailors, and two S13s headed toward Houston. 1000 mile, 15 hour trip each way. Weather was absolutely miserable. Wet, 40 degrees and about a 15 MPH wind. I hate shooting overcast days, it makes good pictures harder to come by. Since the purchase of the XL1s video camera, I have been saving up for my 2.8L glass, which will help a lot over my 3.5-5.6F in situations as these. |

I can't believe it has been over a month since the last update here.
There has simply been no decent racing events since the last drift practice
to cover. This
time we brought out the new camera and boom . The camera is a Canon
XL1s. The video will be up after a bit, as it has been about 3-4 years
since I edited my last video. The day was mainly an overcast day, which
makes shooting people in mid 3rd gear hard without getting a little too
much motion blur. Also doesn't help when you keep getting breaks with the
sun. JR Gittin was down on vacation and decided to come buy and do a little
drifting.

Floridadrift.com Drift Practice- Orlando Link to pictures Please allow thumbnails to load before clicking ActiveX required http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/floridadrift/ Looks like each driver got 2 minutes to do whatever they wanted. You could drift the oval or the infield. After 1 minute a yellow flag was waved. Then a checkered, which meant to exit the track. It was an over cast day with patches of light which kept playing with my pictures. |
|
Atlanta Drift Expo Link to pictures Please allow thumbnails to load before clicking ActiveX required http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/atlantadriftexpo/ Well the cones were new at the beginning of the day, but they sure did get broken in well at the event. The event went extremely well. The staff was pretty professional, and no major car damage (other then the normal bumper wear) or crashes. The course layout was planned well. It had a nice high speed entry sweeper into a slower more technical course, so it really exercised your technical and higher speed drifting. A lot of good talent was there, most that I had not seen before since a lot of them don't make it down to the Florida events. Big congrats to Harri from Ter-Tech on bringing home the win on behalf of Florida! |
|
DDAY8 Drift Practice- Ocala Link to pictures Please allow thumbnails to load before clicking ActiveX required 2 sets of pictures Another DDAY in the books. The back oval was not
used this event (though it would have made for some good shots) and just
ran the course like they did at DDAY4. There were 4 run groups with 10
runs per group. Each group got a total of 25 runs. For some reason though,
everyone this time decided to go off roading. The course had to be cleaned
multiple times during the event.

Ter-Tech Slideways 2005 Competition Link to pictures Please allow thumbnails to load before clicking ActiveX required 2 sets of pictures http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/tertech/ http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/tertech/set2/ Florida's first big money drift competition took place at Orlando Speed World Saturday September 25th. First place paid $750+ prizes and was awarded to the well known Florida drifter, "Hachi" Bill Sherwood. Being a higher speed course with walls, I was suprised (and happy) to see that no one made any serious contact with the wall. The event went very well and had a few good drifters I have not seen before. Hats off to Ter-Tech for fronting the cash prizes for these drivers. Florida needs more competitons as well as practice spots. |

Formula Drift Chicago Link to pictures Please allow thumbnails to load before clicking ActiveX required http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/fdchicago05/ I took the above picture from the 103rd floor of the Sears Tower. I found it funny that you could make out the drift course simply from the tire marks. A week prior to the event, my new Canon Digital Rebel XT arrived in the mail. Five days later I was off to Chicago. Some how my camera got switched off of AWB (auto white balance) and to tugsten, which made 95% of my pictures have a blue tint to them. I didn't realize it was like this until the end of the day, so I had to auto correct the color in photoshop, which in turn decreased the image quality and color some. Next event the pictures will be better. About 90% of the major drivers crashed at this event. It was a high speed entry, followed by a sharp right 180 degree turn. Most people didn't slow down enough for that turn and were smacking into the wall. I was unable to get there for Friday, which is when most of the wrecks occured. Congrats to Sam Hubinette, winner of round 5, Chicago.

Formula Drift Houston Link to pictures Please allow thumbnails to load before clicking ActiveX required http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/fdtx05/ This course was definately different. I would say it was rather dangerous
due to the lack of run off area. The first corner was a high speed corner
and if it was not hit just right, you were in the wall. About 5 cars hit
the wall, most of them corollas. This was a lower speed and more technical
course compared to Atlanta. You can visit http://www.formulad.com
for winners standings.

Formula Drift Atlanta Link to pictures SECOND SET OF PICTURES ADDED!! OVER 1600+ PICTURES TOTAL! NEW- http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/fdatl05fri NEW- http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/fdatl05sat http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/fdatl05 1000 miles of driving from Tampa to Atlanta and we are back. Road Atlanta is an excellent venue since the drift section sits in a valley and is surrounded by grassy hills in which spectators can stand or sit on any where and have an excellent view of the track. The day vs night drift is a nice contrast to keep things different. The battle of the day definately went to Taka vs Sam. The competition was so close that they had to run them 3 times to get a winner, but going onto the 4th run Taka had heating problems so Sam moved on.Quick 8 was at followed: Rhys vs Bubba drift (mike peterson)
Sam hubinette vs rhys
Sam vs. dai in finals Sam wins

DDAY6 Link to pictures http://www.floridaracing.org/drifting/DDAY6/ Another beautiful Florida day was the setting for the 6th Florida DGTrials event. This is the 4th event at the Ocala Grand Prix. The track layout was similar to the last event, but this time the drivers had the choice of either doing the back 180 or going straight through it (how it was setup last time) before exiting onto the oval. Enjoy the pictures!
